![]() Now going to tanks - modern day tanks are equipped with IR cameras to detect IR signatures. But you can be certain some certainly do. Unfortunately trying to google this just brings up that smartphones can detect IR, not which ones emit IR. Some smartphones also give off IR signatures - I'm not sure which ones or if this is universal. ![]() That means at all times this camera is emitting an IR light. Most modern video cameras have an autofocus 'beam' that is stabilized using, you guessed it, infrared technology. This appears to be an actual video camera and not a smartphone. ![]() Note the camera's zoom towards the latter half of the video. I want to take a moment to address why this footage in particular was so reckless and dangerous: War correspondents often talk about the dangers of getting immersed in your camera and subconsciously forgetting it's real life. Especially with the sort of 'tunnel vision' that a person experiences when focusing on filming. But I feel in the West's voracious appetite for footage from this conflict, people are losing sight of the dangers and putting inexperienced civilians at risk. I know we want the world to see what is happening in Ukraine. ![]() While we can commend the cameraman's bravery, he was a few inches away from losing his life, and over what? A blurry video of a tank. ![]()
